One of the original members of Clear Lake Road Riders has passed away from complications due to cancer. Joe and Joanne Haberthur moved away from Lake County around 2000 to live in Fallon, Nevada.
Great fun....a true motorcycle rider.
In 2008 Joe and Joanne were on a ride in Idaho when they were attacked by a mother moose. Joe spent quite a bit of time hospitalized in Idaho before returning to Nevada.
My heart goes out to Joanne and family.

End of an Era
As with most things throughout our lives there comes a time to move on.
In the last year I have found that the direction the Clear Lake Road Riders has been going is diametrically opposed to where I choose to be.
That being said, this will be the final post to this blog.
I will not delete the blog because within it are 4 years of club history.
One can only hope that people who choose to look through this blog will enjoy seeing photos and news of people who are no longer with us.

Time Marches On
At the December meeting our good friend Margaret announced that she would be discontinuing her membership.
I, for one, was so surprised I had no reaction. No 'good job', no 'thanks for the memories', no 'I will miss you.'
So I take this opportunity to say, "THANK YOU MARGARET!" For all the years as our treasurer, friendship, sage advice, for just being you!

2010 Toy Run
The weather was "liquid sunshine" but we still had many riders support the children of Lake County.
A big thank you to all - CMA members ROCK!
A heartfelt 'glad you got home safely' to the GWTA riders from Yolo and Shasta counties who had hours more of riding in the rain to get home.
Without the support of Hillside Honda/Yamaha, CMA, motorcyclists from around Northern California, and Photographer Bob, this event would be cease to exist.

New Website Sample
In July 2010 the Clear Lake Road Riders voted to pay a professional to create a website.

Bob Reese Memorial Poker Run 2009
There were 58 participants for today's fund raiser. Attendance was actually decent considering it was still raining at 10 a.m.!
Hillside Honda graciously opened its doors so that people could sign in without getting wet.
A big thank you to Christian Motorcycle Association members who arrived early and stayed all day long.
Twin Pines Casino in Middletown was awesome. Not only did they donate four $100 drawings, the venue, lunch for each participant and $10 match play, there was also staff assigned to assist with the festivities all day. WOW!
Many of us had never been to Twin Pines Casino before and were impressed by the venue, as well as the professionalism of staff.
Winners of the drawings included three Clear Lake Road Riders.
As a result of the many donations from Twin Pines Casino; raffle prizes, the entry fees of participants and cash donations from other motorcycle groups we are headed to another great year of fund raising for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Ride to San Simeon Nov 2008

Four Clear Lake Road Riders and the Burchers rode to San Simeon on November 7th and returned home November 9th.
The weather cooperated for a awesome ride south that included a stop for lunch at Phil's Fish Market and Eatery in Moss Landing.
We rode on Hwy 1 from north to south this time. I managed to miss a turn but it wasn't a big deal...a little u-turn and I was set to go!
We made a stop at a vista point 47 miles north of San Simeon, so it made for a nice break in the ride.
A couple miles north of Lucia we experienced our first "active" rock slide during a ride. It was like riding into a sudden dust storm. Fortunately the road was clear enough to pick our way through without damage.
We arrived at the Courtesy Motel around 6 p.m. In the past we had always stayed at the Quality Inn using a package deal. We were all in agreement that this motel was nicer (and the hot tub worked) and over all the weekend was less expensive.
We went to Hearst Castle Saturday morning. When we went on our tour the weather was still awesome. The weather turned chilly and cloudy by the time we were finished with the tour so we lunched at the Cavalier restaurant across from the motel and then rode to Cambria for an ice cream dessert. Brrrrr!
Sunday morning the weather was clear....and chilly. We had intended to participate in a Patriot Guard Riders mission to welcome home 100 Marines as they were bused from Oceanside to Alameda but when we arrived in Kettleman City it was only 10:30...making for a very long wait.
We opted to ride straight home with a stop from dinner at Granzella's in Williams.
Over all it was another nice ride with good company.

Ride for Kids 2008

(Cydog arrives at the event.)Twenty members of the club rode to Woodland for the 2008 Ride for Kids.
Nine members volunteered to help with registration, preparation of paperwork and escorting Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Stars.
Clear Lake Road Riders ranked 2nd in donations with over $25,000 .
Hillside Honda ranked 2nd in total dealer donations with over $17,000.
Over all donations collected on October 5th totaled $108, 296!
Chuck Gillingham was the winner of the motorcycle donated by Honda of America.
John Hicks rode to Woodland on Saturday for the escort training but returned home on learning that his wife had passed away during the night after a long illness. Our sincere sympathy goes out to John and his family.

The club members continue to have meetings.
For a while there it looked like the club members were doing advertisements for crutches, braces, and walking canes. Happy to say at the least social event everyone was walking on their own!
The club members continue to gear up for the Taylor's Tavern Toy Run Fund Raiser for October 11th - if you have something to donate please contact Barbara or Paul at 263-9000.
The Toy Run is December 7th.
A few club members ride over the Hopland weekly for the half-price buffet (yum, yum).
A few club members ride daily.
A few club members have gone on multi state rides - to Alaska, to Montana and to Missouri.
Road clean-up August 2nd.
Next meeting August 5th at the Cottage Cafe in Lakeport.

A few meetings, a bridge dedication, a poker run....and a ride or two. Most of our efforts were focused on the Bob Reese Memorial Poker Run in early May.
Not a great turn out for the poker run, but considering the economy it wasn't a bad turn out either.
Our members meet each month at the Cottage cafe in Lakeport - First Wednesday. 6 p.m. for dinner, 7 p.m. for the meetings. All are invited to attend.
